Tower of Rivellino was built to strengthen one of the two main entrances to the old city of Famagusta, located in the Northern part of Cyprus, which was surrounded by a high fortified wall. This Bastion is also called the land gate, which means "Gate of sushi", as opposed to the second gate called "Sea" (Porta del Mare). In addition, it also has several other names, which changed depending on who captured this fortress. So, it is sometimes called Rivellino and Accuse, or "White tower".

The tower is one of the oldest parts of the fortified walls around Famagusta, as it was created before the capture of the city by the Venetians, who built a large part of the defences, and preserved to our days. Originally Rivellino was built by the French during the reign of the Lusignan dynasty, near the main gate of the city. Later that occupied Famagusta Venetians, in parallel with the completion and strengthening of the city walls, he decided to upgrade and this tower, turning it into a Bastion. Thanks to them, the tower appeared a firing position, a chamber for the storage of ammunition, in addition, they built a Bastion on the rocks, thereby significantly complicating the possible undermining of the structure. But despite all the efforts of the Venetians to the Ottomans after a year of siege, managed to capture the city, not damaging the protective wall and bastions. Accustomed in Famagusta, the invaders renamed the tower in "Accuse", which translated means "the white tower is believed to be white in color of the flag that hung the defenders of the city, when he decided to surrender.
