The Church of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary in Rozhdestveno is the third Church built on this spot on the banks of the Oredezh.

The first mention of the settlement at these places dates to 1499 In those days was located here Nikolsko-Sreznevsky the churchyard and the Church "the Great Nikola". This temple was destroyed in 1583-1590 – the first period of Swedish occupation. But, according to legend, this Church went underground for one night, when to the banks of the Oredezh in the time of Troubles came the Swedes. This legend has some basis, since Rozhdestveno actually exist karst caverns, and the temple could easily go under the ground.

After the victory in the Northern war Peter I granted these lands to the heir to the throne, Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich. By decree of Prince Alexei in 1713 in the bend of the River began construction of a wooden Church of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary, where is now located the old cemetery. September 24, 1713, the Church was consecrated.

On the belfry of the Church was installed in the bell casting in 1588. In this Church services were held until 1785, when the center of the village was built the new Church of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary. Since then, the Church served as a chapel.

After the death of Tsarevich Alexei settlement passed nieces of Peter I, and in 1733 after these lands were transferred to the Palace in order. In the period from 1780 to 1797 by order of Catherine II the village Rozhdestveno was the County town. At a time here and there stone buildings, such as Gostiny Dvor, district school, government offices, and a new Church. But Emperor Paul I the city Rozhdestveno was abolished and the village of Rozhdestveno with all the land was granted as a hereditary possession of N. E. Ephraim, the court Councilor. The new Church of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary was erected in the middle of the village in place of the present Church, the consecration took place in 1785, But elegant green temple with a red roof served for a short time. Building a new, third stone of the temple, began only in 1867 during the reign of Alexander III, who "sensitive approach to all Russian". The exterior of the temple was dominated by the features of the Byzantine style. The construction of the Church was directed by the Synod of the architect Ivan Yudovich Bulanov. In 1988 to 1000 anniversary of the baptism of Rus in the Nativity Cathedral was renovated. And to celebrate the 500-year anniversary of the village of Rozhdestveno in the Church were installed new crosses.
