The house of art - art Museum was built in 2003 in the framework of the "European cultural capital" and has since become a monument of architecture in Graz. The project of the Museum building was designed by British architect Peter cook together with Colin Fournier. The Museum specializes in contemporary art of the last four decades.

The unusual shape of the building is radically different from the surrounding houses. The team of architects used innovative ideas in the construction of the Museum. The building frame is made of reinforced concrete and the façade is made of blue plastic panels. On the facade made media installation that consists of a luminous element, a programmable computer. Glowing elements is more than 900 fluorescent ring, stretching on the area of 900 square metres. Day in the modern facade of the clock tower reflected the Schlossberg, which is located across the river. In the evening the installation is used as an electronic Billboard announcing upcoming events and exhibitions. The Museum has no permanent exhibition. Architecture, design, film and photography exist under one roof. The idea of the Museum is to organize various multidisciplinary exhibition. House of art implements an innovative concept that provides opportunities for the public, and for curators specialized exhibitions.

The Museum has a bookstore, where a large selection of literature on contemporary art, design, graphic design, photography and world architecture. The store works with several artistic and architectural universities, therefore, has in its range of rare and scarce books publication.
