The mosque Huishan in Guangzhou has started to build in 627. This is one of the oldest mosques in China. According to the legend it was founded by the uncle of the prophet Muhammad and one of the most famous of his companions, sa'd Ibn Abu Waqqas. He was the first Islamic missionary to China. However, according to most scholars, the mosque was built during the reign of the Chinese Tang dynasty, and subsequently restored several times.

Huanshan in Chinese language means "remember the Prophet." But the mosque has a second name – "the tower of the lighthouse." Is the informal name she acquired due to the shape of its minaret. It really looks like a lighthouse, and a height of thirty-seven meters made it visible to passing ships, which used it as a landmark. The minaret is called Quanta, meaning "tower of light", which also confirms the hypothesis that the mosque served as a lighthouse. Not far from the location of the structure passes the mouth of the Pearl river.

In the architecture of Huanshan intricate combination of styles, traditional to Ancient China and Arab architecture. The mosque consists of a minaret, two-storey prayer hall and an open pavilion. Also nearby is the ancient Muslim cemetery. According to the legend here were buried the forty-Islamic missionaries.

The legend says that the first Muslim companions led by sa'd Ibn Abu Wakasa arrived in Guangzhou in the year 627. These were the first missionaries of the new religion arrived in China. In the same year they started to build the minaret of the mosque for living there Arab traders. Indeed, thanks to its convenient location Guangzhou quickly became a rich center of international trade, in the back of which were attended mostly by Arab and Persian merchants. Subsequently, there was formed a large Muslim community.

Huanshan is one of the first mosques, made in the Chinese style, and one of the many attractions of Guangzhou.
