In the Botanical garden of Hiroshima at the Hiroshima nuclear explosion on 6 August 1945, survived about 170 trees. In the twenty-first century under the project of the United Nations Institute UNITAR "Green legacy Hiroshima" in the world was chosen 200 parks and Botanical gardens, where it was decided to plant seeds of plants that survived the nuclear Holocaust, to remind people of the need to protect all life on earth from the nuclear threat.

The Hiroshima Botanical garden is located in Saeki district, in the Western part of Honshu island. It is located on a hill with views of the Seto Inland sea. For visits everyone in the garden was opened in November 1976. Botanical garden in Hiroshima also plays an important role in the preservation of rare species of plants and participates in programs to exchange their seeds with other Botanical gardens that are located in more than 30 countries.

During the tour, visitors watch research laboratory, warehouse, greenhouse begonias and fuchsias, as well as rock gardens, camellias and a traditional Japanese garden. In six greenhouses of the garden you can see the water lilies and orchids, and cacti. On top of the hill is a garden of roses. In the garden there are about 50 species of birds. Also on the territory of the Botanical garden is a restaurant and cafe.
