Salamanca area of Hobart, capital of Tasmania, situated on the shore of Sullivans Cove. Here is preserved a whole street of buildings built in the 1830-ies of Sandstone. Previously, they were located warehouses of the port of Hobart – keep in grain, wool, whale oil, goods brought from all over the world. And today the buildings house restaurants, galleries, souvenir shops and office space. The name of the district received in honor of the victory of the Duke of Wellington at the battle of Salamanca (province of Spain) in 1812.

Every Saturday, the area becomes home to the famous Salamanca market is a popular place among residents and visitors to Hobart, where you can buy fruits and vegetables, handmade crafts, Antiques and much more. After sunset, the visitors move smoothly in many bars and other drinking establishments of Salamanca and the surrounding shipyards.

In the middle of 1990-ies in the area was built cozy Area of Salamanca. Surrounded by shops, cafes and restaurants, Central fountain square and its lawn is a quiet place, where children play and relax couples. To Salamanca place adjacent to many streets and other areas, built during the whaling boom in the early and mid 19th century. Here you can get to the historical centre of Hobart – district Battery point.

In 1988 in Salamanca has established a memorial to the Abel Tasman, the Dutch Navigator, the discoverer of Tasmania. The memorial consists of a fountain, opened by Her Majesty the Queen Beatrix of Holland, and stone sculptures of the great traveler.
