Dolmabahce Palace is the last Sultan's Palace in Istanbul. In Turkish "Dolmabahce" means "bulk garden". The Palace was built on the site of a small Bay covered. Initially, in the early 17th century, was built a wooden building beşiktaş. In the mid-19th century, this structure was replaced by the Dolmabahce Palace, which was built in the European style.

In 1853, Sultan Abdul-Majid First ordered the construction of this magnificent Palace, which can be compared to the palaces of European monarchs. The construction of the Palace complex Dolmabahce engaged architects Karapet and Nikogas Balamani. Dolmabahce Palace is a massive three-storey neoclassical building, with a facade of white marble. In the Palace complex consists of several buildings. The Palace kitchens are separate from the building on the other side of the road. Largest meeting room is a luxurious ballroom, the dome of this building is decorated with a large crystal chandelier, which weighs 4, 5 tons. This chandelier was presented to Queen Victoria. Some rooms of the Palace are decorated with paintings by famous artist Ivan Aivazovsky. In the late 60-ies of the 19th century the Ottoman Sultan Abdul-Aziz ordered about 40 paintings depicting the Bosphorus. For the execution of this order the artist received a top military award – the Order of Osman, decorated with diamonds. But after a few years Aivazovsky threw the medal into the sea, which meant a protest against the massacre made by the Sultan in the years from 1894-1896.

He died in this Palace, which was his residence, on 10 November 1938.
