In the Central area of Kaliningrad, in a small square opposite the Drama theatre is a monument to the famous German playwright, historian, poet and humanist, Professor and philosopher Friedrich Schiller. The historical value of the monument is that it was installed November 10, 1910, in German Koenigsberg, as the author of a work of art is a famous German sculptor Stanislav Cower. The monument is a bronze figure in full growth on a high pedestal with a plaque that says the name of the poet in Russian and German languages and years of life.
Based on historical facts, we can say that the opening of sculpture by the German thinker (who have never lived in königsberg) was dedicated to the centennial anniversary of the Koenigsberg Opera house. The history of the theatre (1810) began with the staging of Schiller's "William tell". During the capture of Koenigsberg in 1945, the monument was damaged by shell fragments, but was not destroyed in the mid-fifties restored sculpture of the playwright began to decorate the square Regional drama theatre. In 2007, the Park was gentrified, next to the monument, a fountain was installed.
In our day cultural landmark of Kaliningrad is protected by the state, and the last ten years the area around the monument has become a meeting place for creative people and informal youth.
