In the Yamato period the Noto Peninsula had for the country of great importance. On the Peninsula was occupied ports and shipyards, was conducted Maritime trade and repair of ships, it was one of the military fortresses. Trade relations linked the country of Yamato with the now defunct government of Bocci, which was located in the Northern part of the Korean Peninsula, in northeast China, and occupied a part of the Russian Primorye. Japan sent in Bocci silk, gold and cotton, and from there get the fur. Cape Suzu was built lookout tower-a beacon of national importance, which was monitored by the courts.

Currently the Noto Peninsula, located in the Central part of Honshu island, is the place that is not yet "spoiled" and not have brought too much modern technology, and even a line of high-speed trains here have not yet been laid. The Peninsula's population grows rice, catch fish, takes tourists, and also engaged in crafts – for example, creates a lacquer ware.

Administratively the territory of Noto refers to the two prefectures of Ishikawa and Toyama. The boundary between them is the line of hills Godaco, stretching from North to South. The length of the Peninsula from North to South is about one hundred kilometers from West to East – from 30 to 50 kilometers. From the East Noto washed by the water of Toyama Bay, West of Japan sea.

Among tourists Noto is famous for understated beauty of its landscapes, particularly the Western part of the Peninsula. In Noto are the colorful festivals, the most famous are Gazingo LEM is Nabuna (from 31 July to 1 August) and Ishizaki Hoto (beginning of August).
