In the historical center of Kazan city is the only Museum in Russia E. A. Baratynsky. It is located in a wing of the former city estate that once belonged to the poet.
E. A. Baratynsky (Boratynsky) (1800-1844) was an outstanding Russian poet and master of Elegy and philosophical lyrics, friend of Alexander Pushkin. He lived in Kazan and Kamarah country estate of the spouse - Anastasia Lvovna Engelhardt. Later (19-20 centuries) around Kazan lived for several generations Baratynsky.
In March 1977 on a voluntary basis in school No. 34 was opened the first exhibition devoted to the life and work of the poet Pushkin epoch" Yevgeny Abramovich Baratynsky. In 1991 the Museum give a room in the renovated wing of the former estate of the poet, which opens the exhibition "the family album". Nowadays, the Museum is housed in the school building and in the restored wing of a town mansion in the centre of Kazan.
The Museum exposition is made from original items of the era and a collection of memorial objects, documents and photographs Baratynsky donated by relatives of the great poet, who emigrated during the Civil war from Russia. In the extensive Museum collection (about five thousand exhibits) are: the personal belongings of a friend and poet A. S. Pushkin by A. Delvig, rare editions of nineteenth-century photographs and personal belongings of a relative of E. A. Baratynsky - known orientalist, Professor A. K. Kazem-Bek, and other valuable exhibits. The Museum organizes thematic programme dedicated to the works of E. A. Baratynsky.
Main house family Baratynsky, located next to the Museum, is a monument of history and architecture of national significance.
