The Church has a rich history and a stormy destiny. The place where this Church was previously home to several temples. So, one of them was erected in 1685 near residues burned in 1651 the Armenian Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos. In the XVIII century wooden Church was dismantled and in its place was built a new stone. The project of the Cathedral was designed by architect And.Grigorovich-Barsky. The exact date of construction is unknown – some researchers prefer 1772, others 1766, and both dates, surprisingly, is properly documented. The Church was greatly damaged by the great fire of 1811, so during the restoration of the dome, made in the Ukrainian Baroque style, was replaced by a dome in the style of classicism. The temple ceased to be divided into upper and lower, were cleaned of the stairs in the porch. The decor of the temple was restored only partially. In 1824 there was another reconstruction, which was erected from the Western facade of the new warm Church.

In Soviet times the Church was used in different ways. First, there was a regional archive, and in 1946 the warm Church was given to the Orthodox community. After repair 1946-1948, the whole Church was transferred to the Orthodox community. During the overhaul of 1950 were significantly modified dome and roof, restored cornices and plinth. Since 1969, the Church was leased by the Ukrainian society of protection of monuments of history – there were warehouses and a manufacturing facility. After this the Church was restored several times, and the restoration of the 70-ies were carried out mainly on the basis of historical documents. Today it is a functioning Church that belongs to the community of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
