The Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Kislovodsk is the main temple of the city. Cathedral is on Prospekt Mira.
The first Church, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, was opened in 1803, on the premises of the Kislovodsk fortress. However, with the increasing number of parishioners soon it became necessary in the construction of a separate building, as the old Church could no longer accommodate all comers. So, in 1883, took place the laying of the first stone. The construction was supervised by architect Afinogenov. October 22, 1888 the consecration of the temple.
Wall St. Nicholas Cathedral with five domes in the plan, was painted by famous artists Vasnetsov, N. Yaroshenko, M. Nesterov. The high altar was made of wood and decorated with intricate carvings. The Church had great acoustics in my time here singing Chaliapin, Leonid Sobinov. Two years later, near the temple erected a five-tiered bell tower.
Like many other churches, in 30-e years of the XX century, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was expecting a sad fate – he was blown up and completely destroyed. The revival of the Church began only in 1991. The author of the project was the architect V. B. Svinicki. He accurately recreated the architectural form of the temple, preserved using photos. This was done with the original methods, for example, a support for the Central dome steel powrocie design, not the column, which increased the area of the hall. The height of the new Church amounted to 54 meters, it can accommodate up to 3,500 worshippers.
In 1999 was established the Central dome. In 2008 he conducted the consecration, after which it began regular worship services. Today the temple is still active, its decoration is almost complete.
