Caves Batu Caves are among the natural attractions of Malaysia. They are located 13 km North of Kuala Lumpur, where is the temple of the Tamil God of Subramanian. These caves were formed about 400 million years ago in the limestone rocks, accidentally discovered in 1878 by American naturalist William Hornaday. In late January — early February, the Hindus celebrate this holiday Thaipusam lush and eerie purificatory ceremony, held in honour of the God Murugan.
Believers offer prayers, make a statue of their God in a special cave temple, for which they need to climb the 272 stairs. Inflamed by religious ecstasy of the participants who made a vow to God, carry the Kavadi. This ornate wooden frame, which is fixed to the carrier body a variety of sharp needles and hooks. The procession, cheering continuous battle drums and screams, makes a strong impression.
