Motsameta Monastery (The Monastery Of STS. David and Constantine) is one of the brightest sights of Kutaisi, but also throughout Georgia.

The monastery is located on the river Rioni just 3 km from the town of Kutaisi, so most tourists prefer to take him Hiking. Also located near the more famous Gelati monastery.

According to legend, the monastery was erected on the hill where Muslim invaders were executed Georgian princes David and Constantine Mkheidze, who refused to accept Islam. In the XI century there was built a magnificent temple and a monastery founded, called "Motsameta", which means "martyrs", in honor of the princes David and Constantine, which was canonized by the Georgian Church. In our days Motsameta is a beautiful, lush monastery, decorated with round turrets, completed peaked tent-shaped domes. On the territory of the temple there is a small fountain with drinking water, which many people consider healing.

Ancient paintings in the temple has not survived. Everything you can see in it today is the works of modern masters. Near the temple is the bell tower, the exact date of its construction is still unknown.

In recent years the monastery has revived. In 2010, underwent major restoration of buildings and the beautification of the whole territory. On the territory of the temple complex, 15 October annually celebrated holiday Motsameta, dedicated to the Holy brothers David and Constantine.
