The Lisbon Oceanarium, the largest aquarium in Europe. The Oceanarium is located in the Nations Park, which hosted the world Expo 1998. Over the Lisbon Oceanarium project was created by renowned American architect Peter Chermayeff, who also built the aquarium in Osaka and many other aquariums in the world. The building stands on the dock at the inland sea and from a distance resembles an aircraft carrier.

In the Oceanarium has a large collection of marine and ocean of the world. Visitors can see the birds and various mammals, a variety of underwater fish and other marine organisms, including plants. Total collection of about 16,000 individuals of 450 species. The area of the main exhibition aquarium – 1000 sqm with a large aquarium filled with water (5000 m) and a depth of 7 meters. The water temperature in the tank is maintained at a level that is comfortable for tropical fish, and for fish of temperate latitudes. Through acrylic Windows, which are glazed aquarium, you can see floating sharks, rays, fish-tuna, barracudas, groupers and Moray eels. Lisbon Oceanarium is one of the few aquariums where you can see the fish-the moon, which requires special conditions for content. Among the exotic specimens – 2 large crab spider and 2 sea beaver.

Around the large Central aquarium, there are four more intended for natural flora and fauna of the Pacific ocean, the coral reefs of the Indian ocean, North Atlantic coast. From downtown aquarium they are separated acrylic sheets. Besides all this, on the first floor there are 25 themed aquariums, each dedicated to a particular type.
