The Palace of the Marquis of Fronteira is located in the northeastern part of the city, next to the Park of Monsanto. The building, built in 1640, is one of the most beautiful residences in Lisbon. Very often a Palace compared to the oasis, which is located in the middle of the city. Inside the Palace walls of the rooms are decorated with ornate tiles XVII-XVIII centuries, fresco and oil painting.
The Grand Palace is surrounded by gardens in the Italian style, the total area of 5, 5 ha. In gardens, surrounded by trees, there are fountains and many statues depicting mythological characters. Also exhibited busts of Portuguese kings. Worthy of attention is the Gallery of kings, which is located in the English garden of the seventeenth century.
During the XVIII century the Palace not once restored, and its premises were expanded. Today the Palace is a private property of the 12th Marquis Fronteira, but possible for visitors to tour some of the rooms, the library and the garden.
The Palace is famous and fences, and terraces, not to mention the interiors are decorated with amazing tiles on all sorts of subjects. Inside the Palace impresses with its luxury and elegance. In the first place – the Battle room, where panels depict military scenes, and three large Windows overlooking the beautiful garden of Venus. The dining hall is decorated with frescoes with images of Portuguese aristocrats. Here you can also see the Delft tiles of the XVI century, with images of nature and landscapes.
In the old chapel of the end of XVI century is the Nativity scene. It is believed that the Nativity scene made by one of the greatest Portuguese sculptors of all time: Machado de Castro.
