The London Eye Photo: The London Eye

The London eye, or Millennium Wheel is a giant Ferris wheel that is set in London on the river Thames. Wheel height of 135 meters. It was installed to celebrate the Millennium. Architects David marks and Julia Barfield.

The wheel has 32 passenger capsules egg-shaped, by number of areas, covering greater London. Each capsule holds up to 25 people. Capsules are completely closed, so that during movement of passengers both seated and walk freely about the cabin. The wheel moves at a speed of 26 cm per second (0. 9 km/h), a full rotation takes approximately 45 minutes. This speed allows you to stop the wheel for the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers, but for the elderly and the disabled wheel stop for security purposes.

Fragments of the wheel was delivered on the Thames on barges and assembled in a horizontal position, then a special lifting system lifted the finished wheel. Ferris wheel immediately became very popular, it is the most visited paid-for tourist attraction in London, and in year 3, 5 million people admire his view of London.

Massive construction of the Ferris wheel looks delicate and lightweight, and its installation in London is often compared to the appearance in Paris of the Eiffel tower. The London eye has become as much a symbol of the city and gives its visitors a rare opportunity to admire the whole city from the height of bird flight. At dusk the light turns on, and the London Eye is unforgettable.
