National Park Balbalasang Balbalan" was created in 1973 in the region of the Cordillera Central mountain range on Luzon island. The nearest city to Tabuk is located 25 km to the West. The Park consists of two mountain ranges with numerous streams flowing into the Sultan river, which separates the ridges. Mount Spokoj, located on the Western side, reaches a height of 2456 meters – with its views of the province of Ilocos region and Cagayan Valley. The total area covered by forest Park – 1388 ha.
The word "balbalasang" in the local dialect means "forest, which is dominated by the trees Balacing". This tree reaches a height of 15 meters, and therefore stands out from the rest. The native tribes living on the territory of the Park are its custodians – they set strict limits on the use of forest and determine punishment for breaching these rules.
The biodiversity Park is striking in its scale: adjacent tropical rain forest, pine forest and deciduous forest. Only birds in the Park, there are 83 species, of which 34 are Philippine endemics, and 2 species are found only on the island of Luzon – the Oriole and Isabel artography fruit dove. Among mammals the Park is home to bats, civets, deer, macaques, various rodents and warty pigs. Luzon pygmy fruit bat and secocholesta rat belong to the species endangered. In 2003 the Park was discovered several new species of animals, including korotkolapyh wood rat, which was considered extinct for more than 100 years ago, the frog of the genus Platymantis and unknown species of blind snakes.
Still the tourist potential of the Park are poorly known. Potentially attractive properties worth noting the high mountain peaks that can give lovers of mountain climbing unforgettable experience; the so-called "Eternal Rock" - a lone pine tree growing on top of a huge boulder; the Sultan river and Spanish trail, winding among the mountains and leading to the village of Abra – once she was used by the Spanish conquistadors. Especially numerous scenic waterfalls, hidden in the thickets of tropical forests.
