Dagestan United historical architectural Museum in Makhachkala today is one of the largest museums in the Caucasus of this kind. The Museum was founded in 1923, today it also has 36 branches. The Museum was created on the initiative of the Commissioner for education Alibek Takho-godi. Great contribution to the development of the Museum was made and its first Director - Dmitry Pavlov.

The story of the creation of the Dagestan United historical architectural Museum has its roots in the late NINETEENTH century, when first attempts were taken to create a Museum in which it was possible to collect samples of the best products Dagestan masters, materials on the history and culture of this amazing region. The idea of creating such a Museum owned by I. S. Kostomarivska, a native of Russia who has made a significant contribution to the development of culture and education of the highlanders. I. S. Kostamarovsky in 1891 bequeathed most of his wealth to implement their ideas. And after 22 years, when they managed to double the funds by percent, took place the solemn opening of the Museum.

The exposition of the Museum now has more than 150 thousands of different items, including paintings and sculpture, weaving and other types of decorative art, ancient manuscripts, and objects of archeological excavations. The most valuable can be called a collection of weapons and firearms, a collection of jewelry. A special place in the exposition is occupied by the Department of flora and fauna.

The Museum is not only exhibitions, but also scientific and educational. So, there are regular evening meetings with prominent cultural figures of modern Dagestan.
