Fort Bonifacio, also called "Global City", is a highly urbanized district in the town Taguig that is part of the Manila Metropolitan area. The district received its name in honor of the main Philippine military camp – Fort Andres Bonifacio. In recent years it has experienced a real economic boom, thanks to the sale of military lands. The history of the area began during the time when control of the Philippines belonged to the Americans, then the U.S. government acquired a 25, 7 sq. km of land in the town Taguig for military use. After 1946, the Philippines gained independence, the U.S. handed over to the newly formed Philippine Republic all rights to the ownership and management of entire country with the exception of military bases. Only in 1949, Fort McKinley was transferred to the Philippine government, and in 1957 he became the permanent headquarters of the Philippine army. Then it was renamed Fort Bonifacio in honor of the revolutionary hero Andres Bonifacio, who fought with the Spaniards.
