White forest is a forest complex located in the Masovian Podlasie lowland in North-Eastern Poland. White forest – lowland forest, which was formed in prehistoric times on the European territory. For many centuries the forest was cut down and destroyed, however, have preserved intact only the array in Masovian Podlasie lowland. White forest is on the border of Poland and Belarus. 90% of the forest consists of pine trees. The area of this region is about 85 000 hectares. the Local climate is characterized by high rainfall (up to 650 mm per year), as well as a small number of Sunny days. The average annual temperature in White Pushcha is +7° C. In the Western part of the lowland is dominated by arable land and meadows, the Eastern part is covered with the primeval forest.

Since the thirteenth century, the local land belonged to the Bishop of Pułtusk. Residents of the territories were protecting forest resources, as they were a source of income for the population. In Pushcha gathered mushrooms and berries, kept bees. Despite all the efforts of local residents, White forest has repeatedly suffered during the armed clashes and wars from the middle ages to the present day. The most severe damage was caused to woodland during the Northern war and the Second world war.

The fall of the Republic has led to the fact that the forest was sold to private owners, what was the cause of the depletion of the forest in the nineteenth century. The first attempts to save unique forest was undertaken only in 1880. Today, the White forest is a protected area, nature reserve.
