The memorial complex "the mound of Glory" was built in 1966-1969 in the memory of the great Victory in the great Patriotic war.
Mound of Glory it was decided to build on the site of the famous Minsk Boiler", which was successfully carried out operation "Bagration", during which the environment gets 105th grouping of German troops. Taken prisoner in more than 35 thousand German soldiers and officers.
Mound of Glory it was decided to put on old Slavic tradition – the world according to the handful of earth. Sent the earth from all corners of the USSR, the people came, brought their native land in memory of those who have served this military feat and laid their heads together with the soldiers of the enemy. Together they have poured earthen hill 35 meters. On the top of the mound are 241 step of the long stairs.
Led creation of complex national artist sculptor Andrey onufrijovych Bembel. In the creation of the memorial was also attended by the sculptor A. artimovich, architects O. stakhovich and L. Mickiewicz, engineer B. Laptsevich.
The mound is crowned by a memorial from four bayonets height 35, 6 meters. Four bayonet – a symbol of the four Soviet fronts, surrounded fascist grouping. Bayonets share the ring with bas-reliefs of Soviet soldiers and partisans. On the inner side of the ring mosaic, on which is the inscription: "the armies of the Soviet Army-liberator — glory! ".
Glory mound is located near the main airport of the country and everyone who arrives in Minsk by plane, sees this monumental building, making the mound of Glory became a symbol of Belarus, especially familiar to Soviet citizens on the postcard on the Victory day.
