Museum Hermann Otto is the largest Museum in Miskolc was founded in 1899 and was once called the Museum of the Borsod-Miskolc (Borsod - historic County capital Miskolc). The Museum contains more than 600 000 exhibits. The main emphasis of the exhibition is on archaeology, Mineralogy, art, history and Ethnography.

The Museum was nationalized in 1949. And the name of Herman Otto - famous Hungarian zoologist and ethnographer, he received 1953. Since 1963, he collects artifacts from not only the areas Miskolc, Borsod, but from around the County Borsod-abaúj-zemplén County.

The Museum occupies several buildings within the city of Miskolc, Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen. The main building is located at the Erzsebet square and is the oldest of all, here are the highlights of the collection. The building on the street Görgey was built in 1952, here are the Museum of fine arts, library and storage rooms.

In 1999, the Museum Herman Otto was awarded the title of Museum of the Year.
