The Museum of V. A. Tropinin and Moscow artists of his time is located in Zamoskvorechye, in Shetininsky lane. Founded the Museum of F. E. Vishnevsky in 1969.
The Museum building is a restored merchant's manor Petuhova located between Bolshaya Ordynka and a Large Meadow. The estate was built in the early 19th century. The complex of manor buildings is extant wooden outbuilding 1883. In the fire of 1812, the mansion was badly damaged and was rebuilt. The newly built stone house, wooden mezzanine and outbuilding. The entrance to the building was designed in the form of a portico, which was an architectural feature. Inside the house has been preserved cast iron staircase in the middle of the 19th century.
The building has always been in private hands. Descendant Petuhova - polar Nikolay Petukhov - donated the building to F. E. Vishnevsky. Wisniewski, together with collected collection, donated the house to the Museum. Collection Vishnevsky had about 250 works of art. Included in the estate complex wooden house, decorated with carved cornice, and in our time is owned by descendants of the collector. The house is a monument of cultural history.
The Museum exposition dedicated to the Russian art of the first half of the 19th century. The Museum opened in 2011, after a nine-year renovation of the old building. Over the years it was restored more than two hundred paintings and objects included in the exhibition. The ceremonial opening took place on 18 March and was dedicated to the birthday of V. A. Tropinin.
The backbone of the exhibition are the work of the Tropinin. The exhibit features paintings of Moscow artists of the late 18th – first half of the 19th century: Ivan Vishnyakov, Ivan Argunov, Alexei Antropov, Dmitry Levitsky, Fyodor Rokotov, Vladimir Borovikovsky, Alexander Briullov and Orest Kiprensky. In 40 years of existence of the Museum, its collection has increased almost ten times.
The Museum has many items of decorative art. This porcelain, bronze ware, glass, bead embroidery and more.
