The mansion Mani Bhavan, located in Central Mumbai, is the place where Mahatma Gandhi stayed during his stay in the city. And this building was the original headquarters of the movement's spiritual leader for the liberation of India in 1917-1934.
The owner of the house was the family Mani, namely Ravishankar Gagawan Jhaveri is a great friend and colleague of Gandhi. In 1955 the building was transferred to the ownership of the Gandhi Smarak the Nidhi – national Foundation for the memory of Gandhi as a historical and cultural monument.
This two-story building is the real pride of the city. Because being in him, Mahatma Gandhi initiated the movement Satyagraha – nonviolent resistance, urging the Indian people to abandon purchases of British goods, and to comply with certain established by the British laws.
At the entrance to Mani Bhavan is a statue of Mahatma Gandhi, to which people often bring flowers as a sign of his respect. On the ground floor there is a large photo gallery, which contains a collection of pictures of Indian leader, from his early childhood, and ending with the last days of his life, as well as newspaper clippings with materials about him. On the second floor is the master bedroom Gandhi, the interior of which was not at all changed. The bathroom is separated from visitors by a glass partition. Directly opposite his bedroom is the room in which listen to offers pictures as well as paintings depicting Gandhi in different times of his life. And at the end of the tour you can enter the terrace, where Mahatma Gandhi was arrested in 1932.
In 2010, Mani Bhavan was attended by President Barack Obama with his wife Michelle, becoming the first foreign visitor of a Museum of such high rank in the last 50 years. To him this man was Martin Luther king. The Museum administration has expressed hope that the visit of the American President will draw people's attention to Mani Bhavan.
