In October 2002, which was a Saturday the 5th day, not so far from Semenovsky lake, a popular place of recreation for residents of the Murmansk - opened the memorial complex immortalizing the memory of the lost seamen in time of peace. This event was timed to the celebration of the city, which in Murmansk is celebrated on 4 October. At half past five in the evening, Moscow time, all of the Murmansk court, and those which were at anchor in the Kola Bay, and crossing the oceans - marked the opening of the memorial long beep.
Defined the memorial complex in the Leninsky district, between the street name Chelyuskintsev and the prospectus, named in honor of the Heroes of Severomorsk. The architects of this memorial are N. Bogdanov and N. Kireeva.
The complex is located on the top of the hill Orthodox Church of the Savior on waters, it leads to the stairs from the viewing platforms. At the center of the staircase in the form of a hexagon lighthouse built memorial hall. 5 the walls of the hall placed a memorial plate in memory of sailors who did not return. Also in the hall the visitors include musical accompaniment in the form of cries of seagulls and the sound of the surf. The beacon is equipped with real sound and light signal devices at the opening ceremony were included. The height of the lighthouse reaches 17, 5 meters. Before the lighthouse is constructed of marine anchor, foot anchor solemnly laid a capsule with water from the sea, which became the common grave, not returning to shore sailors.
On the upper platform near the lighthouse is the marine temple of the Savior on waters, built by donations from citizens and businesses. Saviour-on-waters is the first Orthodox Church in the center of Murmansk. Its construction was laid in honor of the 85th anniversary of the city. The opening of the temple was timed to celebrate the 86 anniversary of Murmansk. The temple was consecrated on 3 October 2002. In this Church there are icons of the Northern saints-helpers mariners. Leads to the temple staircase, near the Church is a viewing platform, it offers a wonderful panorama of the city of Murmansk and the Gulf. Symbolic lighthouse and Church of the Savior on waters are "calling cards" of Murmansk. After the opening ceremony of the memorial complex in the temple of the Savior on waters night service was held in memory of the lost seamen.
In 2009, 15 June next to the lighthouse mounted the wheelhouse of the nuclear submarine "Kursk", which became a monument to submariners who lost their lives in peacetime. The idea of the monument was nurtured for a long time, considered various options and one General opinion is that the monument should not be pompous. A fragment of cuttings were lifted from the depths and given in proper form. The work continued for a long time. First, the cabin was restored, then laid out the project. This was done on a voluntary basis, people who are concerned.
On the wall, which was built next to the wheelhouse, recorded the names of the submarines, which killed sailors in peacetime. It lists 33 submarines. Also carved trail hands, touching which supposedly shake the hand of the man, who remained in the sea. The opening of the monument took place on July 26. None of Murmansk sailors who died in the line of duty in time of peace – will not be forgotten.
For walking and outdoor recreation favorite place of the citizens was a memorial. In rare warm Sunny days all the benches are occupied rest of Murmansk, the most desperate of them situated on a green slope. Towards evening, after dark, from the observation deck offers stunning views of the harbour and city, shining with lights.
