In Murmansk, street of trade Unions is a monument dedicated to the workers who gave their lives during the great Patriotic war. The opening of the monument took place in October 1974, sponsored by the famous Deaf sculptor G. A., in collaboration with the architect Taxis F. S.

A monumental composition is a stylized DOT, which in some ways are lined with a dark red granite. On the left side of the monument has a bas-relief, which depicts two soldiers, and on the opposite side of the edge is engraved the inscription, dedicated to the memory of the fallen in the war of builders. In the upper part of the granite monument three fixed bayonet, which carry symbolic significance in an indomitable strength of the Russian people to Win. It was decided to erect a monument on a concrete base, which is around the perimeter was lined with granite blocks. The stone slabs covering the monument, have a slightly pinkish gracefully complemented by the ebb and flower beds, which from year to year in the summer season decorate the obelisk unpretentious daisies. Completing the ensemble is made in the form of a large granite benches. General view of the monumental buildings especially fits well in a small cozy square. The location for the monument was not chosen by chance. According to the stories of veterans of the great Patriotic war, on this place in 1941 was the formation of volunteer units – workers famous of the trust under the name "Murman-ribstroy" and other various kinds of construction companies of the city of Murmansk, which was subsequently sent to the front. The largest number of such organizations was defeated, desperately defending their Homeland from the invasion of the Nazis. Thirty years later, in a small quiet square, in the famous street of trade Unions was a large granite stone with a short inscription that tells of the upcoming installation of a commemorative monument. The authors of the project – Deaf G.. and taxis f.. – able to develop some type of view of the monument, after which he was selected the most suitable in their opinion, which was also approved by the society. Some portion of the funds necessary for the erection of the monument were collected by city contractors, most of which are free of charge worked on the construction of a monument to military builders.

The opening ceremony of the obelisk took place on 12 October 1974 – on this day in Murmansk were held celebrations dedicated to the 30th anniversary of defeat of fascist troops in the Russian Arctic. On this day in the streets of the city gathered together a great number of its citizens, especially workers of various units of Glavbolgarstroy". At the rally the speakers speakers before the assembled crowd and made some of the Murmansk builders – Hero of Socialist Labor – Safronov A. J., who headed the team of carpenters.
