Located in the Murmansk Museum of naval Northern fleet is the famous military history Museum. The Foundation of the Museum took place in the autumn of October 16, 1946, with the support of the Federal state institution of art and culture and the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. Prior to opening day of the Museum has done a tremendous job, which was launched in 1943. The cumulative collection of the material and its processing took place under the strict guidance of Drackula F. P. – Lieutenant, who took the initiative and collecting different kinds of exhibits for their placement in the new Museum of the Northern fleet, located in the former House of officers.
The first exposition of the Museum presents to visitors, was the exhibition called "Defense of the Soviet Arctic during the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945", which opened in 1946. Over its 60 years of existence and constant work by the Museum guide Navy Northern fleet, and his staff had developed about a hundred of traveling exhibitions that visited all naval garrisons and many cities of our country, and in several dozen countries around the world, on ships designed for fighting the Northern fleet.
Active editorial work was carried out by historians. For example, in 1956 political Department of the Northern fleet, if the activity and care of the Museum, published a small brochure entitled "Heroic and courageous exploits of the Northern fleet in the battles for the Motherland." Over the years data have been published about 150 publications in print form submitted by leaflets, brochures, books, guidebooks, calendars, and booklets.
For more than thirty years of activity, TIM Northern fleet was celebrated as the best in the registry of the Museum network of Russia, the Navy and the Armed Forces of Russia. At the moment the naval Museum of the Northern fleet is in the House of officers of the city of Murmansk, and has a direct relationship to the military-historical profile. The Museum staff not only collect, scrutinize and store the various naval monuments, for example, naval flags, weapons, medals, flags, medals, numerous documents, personal belongings of sailors who served during different years in the Northern fleet, as well as items of military paraphernalia. In the Museum you can see some models of submarines, aircraft and surface ships over the years.
The Museum exposition covers the time period lasting from 1693 to the present day. Besides the exhibition is in eight spacious rooms and tells the story of the sections: "the Appearance of the naval forces in Northern Russia. 1693 – 1922", "Creation and formation of the Northern fleet. 1923-1941 years", "the Merits of the Northern fleet in the great Patriotic War 1941-1945", "the Northern fleet – defender of the Maritime borders of Russia. 1945 – present day".
Museum staff conduct a thorough collection of materials that after editing are included in the exhibition. At the moment, the Museum collections include more than 65 thousand exhibits.
Equally important in the work of the Museum is given to the questions in tour operation. Staff conducted numerous fascinating tour through the halls and exhibitions that were presented in the Museum on a variety of topics. Employees participate in the creation of bus tours around Murmansk and Severomorsk, in a small village called Safronova that will allow the tourists to get acquainted with the memorable places of the land and the fleet.
Recently the interest of people to the Museum has increased significantly, for example, during 2006-2007, the Museum was visited by 40 thousand people, among whom were not only soldiers of the North sea fleet, but residents of the region and city, as well as foreign tourists and delegations of foreign States.
