Park of Mont Boron in nice visits not every tourist, and for good reason: it's an amazing part of life of this famous resort.
Covering 57 hectares the Park is rightly called the green lungs of nice. It is located in the Eastern part of the city, between the port and the Bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer, harrow on the hill with a height of 191 meters (its name, the Park is named). Here we rise to walk, picnic and enjoy the magnificent views.
Hundreds of thousands of years ago there was a camp of primitive people. On the West side of the mountain, closer to the sea, is known since 1821 cave Lazarus, in which were found the remains of people and animals (including long-extinct woolly rhinoceros) and stone tools. Archaeologists believe that the cave was winter Parking preponderance-hunters.
Much later, in the middle ages, this place has often been the case in the battle. After the residents got rid of captured the mountain Moors (one of the legends that explain the origin of the name of the mountain, they were expelled the monk Boron), for strategic reasons, it was decided to cut down on it the whole forest. In the XVI century in the Northern part of the mountain were built the Fort of Mont Alban (a beautiful example of military architecture of that time), and at the end of the XIX century in the southern part erected the fortress of Mont-Boron. Both buildings were to guard and protect nice from possible invasions.
In 1862, the city decided to restore the removed timber. The solution of the task entrusted to the forestry engineer Prosper Demonte. For four years, where once cattle grazed, appeared the main array of green spaces. Would be correct to call it the Park, and forest Park. There are no flowerbeds or fountains – just trees (cedar, eucalyptus, cypress, Aleppo pines, Holm oaks, olives, mastic pistachio nuts), shrubs (juniper, buckthorn, prickly pear), wild flowers (dwarf carnations, orchids, freesia).
Roads and tracks with a total length of eleven kilometers meander among the fragrant thickets. Basically the Park is located between the two FORTS. In shady groves at the top there are a few dozen simple wooden tables with benches. Local residents can enjoy picnics in the Park, but the solitude here can always be found, even in the output.
After lunch in the fresh air should definitely visit the observation deck around both FORTS. Inside the fortresses are not allowed (although it is interesting to explore even the wall – walk around the Fort of Mont Boron takes about forty minutes on the way across the bench). But the main thing all the same on the outside – stunning views. From the Fort of Mont Alban perfectly visible from the Bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer and cap Ferrat on the other shore. There, on a promontory, is one of the pearls of the Riviera village of Saint-Jean-cap-Ferrat, is a favorite resting place of aristocrats and millionaires. From the Fort of Mont Boron is visible to the entire city of nice and the Bay of Angels. And if you look straight on – sea, blue sea to the horizon. Breathtaking.
