The village Bolshiye Vyazemy first mentioned in spiritual letter of Ivan Kalita. During the reign of Boris Godunov here was built a wooden Palace with numerous outhouses, a large garden and a pond with a stone dam. The ruined manor was in 1694. promoted by Peter the great to his tutor and friend, Prince Boris Alekseevich Golitsyn (1651-1714), who engaged in its restoration, but not very actively. The main building of the manor began under Nicholas Mikhailovich Galitzine (1727-1786), at the end of the eighteenth century: a little away from the Church grew, a new manor house, which during the war of 1812 and took Kutuzov and Napoleon. Relates the history of the estate and with A. S. Pushkin – his grandmother owned the estate Zakharovo, and the whole family went to Church in Vyazemy to worship.

Local legend about the owner of the estate – old Princess Galitzine, bred by A. S. Pushkin in "the Queen of spades" in the image of an old woman-the Countess – still remains a legend, because the manor belonged not to the Princess, and her son, whom she, however, often visited.

The HOMESTEAD has a unique library, collected by Boris Vladimirovich Golitsyn (1769-1813) and consisting of about 30 thousand volumes. In Soviet times it was distributed to public libraries; family jewels Golitsyn also were sold to museums. The manor house was first occupied by the colony for the homeless, then a sanatorium for old Bolsheviks. Before the great Patriotic war there was the parachute school, armor school, and during the war hospital. Only in 1987. it was decided to create in the estate Museum and now it is.
