The city of Olomouc realized that their city needed a zoo, in the 1950-ies, when in the main city Park. Sour cream was founded by a small zoo corner, which contained several species of mammals and birds characteristic of the Czech Republic. However, among cells with traditional herons and hawks met cages with parrots and peacocks, which invariably were crowded with kids.
To a lot zoo had to be approached with the utmost seriousness. The first task was to find a suitable site. She was out of town on the Holy hill, which previously owned Gradiski monastery, and was a 42, 5 hectares of coniferous forest.
The same year the zoo is considered to be 1953. The erection of enclosures for animals worked the mass of people, mostly ordinary citizens who worked on a voluntary basis and received no charge. In addition to the pavilions and various outbuildings that needed to be done: to bring water and electricity to pave a convenient route to the entrance to the zoo, to take care of the infrastructure. All this was done in 1956.
Now this is one of the most favorite places of recreation for residents and visitors of Olomouc. Here you can see representatives of both local and exotic wildlife: giraffes, kangaroos, lemurs, Siberian tigers and so on. In addition to demonstrating the mammals and birds of the audience, the zoo is also engaged in the breeding of rare species. For example, zoo staff participate in various breeding programs, including those which relate to the reproduction of herons and mountain goats.
In the center of the zoo stands an observation tower from which you can see on the territory of this Park from a great height. There is also the aquarium, the pride of which is considered a small reef sharks.
