The Munch Museum is the largest Museum and cultural center in the capital of Norway, built in 1963 on the project Gunnar Pogner and Elnara Mykelbust to the centenary of the birth of Norwegian expressionist painter and graphics – Edvard Munch.

Its collection encompasses more than 1000 paintings, 4,500 drawings and watercolors, 1800 engravings, 6 sculptures and some personal things, bequeathed to the Museum after his death in January 1944. The Museum also serves as a research center for the study of the works of the great Munch.

A special place in the artist's work is a written self-portraits – from beautiful, but grim young man to a full still force the old man. This gallery of portraits allows us to trace the life of Edvard Munch.

After an armed robbery in August 2004 stolen from the Museum, the paintings were returned to the place only two years later. Some of them had to be restored since they were noticeable damage.

Museum exhibition is constantly updated and 1990s with concerts and screening of documentaries on the Norwegian and English languages. Some part of the exhibition Munch Museum regularly exhibits in other museums.

The Museum has a gift shop and cafe.
