The most famous building of Ostrava, which is considered by many locals, is its hallmark is the New town hall.
The five-storey building, which adjoins a tall, slender tower, was erected a few years. In 1925 there was a contest for the best design project of the new city hall. Requirements for the future building were put to the most simple: the construction was supposed to be a reflection of the time, that is to be stylish, modern, functional, reasonably concise. The best project was recognized as a development of the famous architect from Brno Vladimir Fisher. For the construction of the New city hall took enormous at the time the amount of 52 million kroons. Supervised the construction of this facility, and modified certain elements on the spot two talented masters Jan Ruba and františek kolář.
