If you find yourself in the Ostrava region under the name of Moravian Ostrava and accidentally find the Church of St. Joseph, we initially did not even realize that before you is a sacred building. This Church with its look more like a warehouse or a factory. It is built in the style of minimalism and completely blends in with the surrounding buildings. That before us is still the Church, not technical building, indicates only a huge cross that night, an original is illuminated. It is mounted on a high tower, like a keel, and serving as the "lead" the Church.
The Church of St Joseph in Moravian Ostrava is a unique structure, which appears in many architectural publications. This temple is considered to be the first religious building in the Czech Republic, which was built using a steel frame.
The Church was built in 1935-1937, on the initiative of the order of St. Francis de sales. The founder of the society was St. John Bosco, which was often called don Bosco. The Salesians were founded in Ostrava monastery and supported the poor young people.
During the Communist regime in the Czech Republic, the St. Joseph's Church was converted into a gym, and then given over to the storage of military archives. Believer was witnessed in 1990. It was very difficult to lead a Church in the proper form. For example, was broken flooring that required major repairs. But the community has coped with all tasks.
Now the building hosts the service, so the Church can be visited at any time.
