The Church Of STS. Francis and Victor Photo: Church Of STS. Francis and Victor

The Church of St. Francis and Victor, located in the Ostrava district Office, is experiencing not the best times: the 1997 flood damaged walls and foundations of the building. Limited funding coming from the city Council, does not allow to overhaul, in which the Church desperately needs. Therefore the members have to deal with fundraising and organising various cultural events that help to raise money to pay for the restoration of the old Church. For example, some local activists are holding an annual spring festival dedicated to the local Church.

The Church of St. Francis and Victor was built in Grusome in the years 1886-1892 on the original project of Heinrich von Ferstel and max the Swede. In 1893 the Church was first opened for parishioners.

Grochowska the Church has an unusual history, which will proudly tell you of any local resident. Catholic service since the founding of the Church here spent 8 priests. After the death of one of them, it was decided not to use the bells to announce the joyful event. The bells of the Church of St. Francis and Victor now hit only in case of death of any of the parishioners.

The Church preserved the original Central altar, made in the late nineteenth century, and several side altars. The flood damaged a statue of the virgin Mary of Lourdes, but other sculptures of the Church remained unharmed.

Benches for the parishioners were made in 1892 and since then has not changed.
