Paris Museum of Oriental arts, or Museum of the state historical Museum, was founded in the late XIX century rich Lyons industrialist and avid collector Emile Guimet.
The name of the GMM means a lot to France. Talented and determined entrepreneur, he's still in the nineteenth century laid the foundations of the company, which later became industrial group "Dhuhr" – one of the world leaders in the manufacture of aluminum, chemicals and nuclear fuel.
At the GIM had a hobby: he traveled through Greece, Egypt, Japan, China, India, collecting objects of art. He first exhibited his collection in his native Lyon in 1879, ten years later moved her to Paris. During the life of a collector antique theme began to depart on the second plan, the Museum has acquired a purely Asian appearance. Here gave major collections: Charles Vara Korean, Jacques Bako - Tibetan, Museum of Indochina - Indochina, French archaeological mission in Afghanistan - Afghan. In 1945 the Louvre to the Museum a collection of values of China and Japan in exchange for the Egyptian collection.
As a result, the Guimet Museum, as it was long called, was one of the largest collections of Asian art. It is quite natural that such a Museum was formed in Paris, the capital of the former major colonial powers, postarevshey its influence to the Indochina.
Thematic sections of the collection contain a unique, priceless work of art. Stand out the famous statue of bodhisattva, taken in the late nineteenth century expedition of Alfred Foucher of district Peshawar (formerly Afghanistan and later Pakistan). The Bagram treasures, among them Makarska ivories, Roman ware, wooden objects of the Han dynasty, confirming the fact of intensive trade civilizations of ancient times. The Museum has a collection of Khmer sculpture, unsurpassed in the world. Widely presents the arts of China, Korea, India, Japan.
Part of the Museum are also Buddhist Pantheon, which exhibits part of the Japanese collection in the state historical Museum, and the Museum of Anne that stores East collection Madame Anne.
