The Basilica of the Madonna dei Sette Dolori – blessed virgin Mary of the Seven Sorrows is located in Pescara. This is a religious, historical, artistic and cultural landmark of the city and of the region of Abruzzo. The Basilica was built in the early 17th century on the hill where once, according to legend, the shepherds was the mother of God with a heart pierced by seven spears. The first miraculous appearance was a small chapel, erected in the second half of the 16th century, then at its Foundation the Church was built, and then the current Basilica. In 1665, the year Bishop Raffaele Ezberci bestowed upon her the title of parish Church and dedicated to the Madonna dei Sette Dolori. And almost three centuries later, in 1959, the year, at the initiative of Pope John XXIII granted the status of minor Basilica of the order of the minor Capuchin.

The history of this Church has always been closely linked with the history of Pescara. At the end of the 19th century, the inhabitants of the city used the area around the Basilica as a place to hold political meetings and gatherings. And when on the hill was built the Town Hall, the Basilica became the real centre of the city, its "soul".

Neoclassical appearance of the Basilica with the perfect symmetry of forms and proportions are the result of restoration work carried out in the late 18th – early 19th centuries. The Central part of the facade is decorated with pilasters with Corinthian capitals and a triangular tympanum. Marble portal crowned with a plaque with the date of the consecration of the Basilica – 1757-th year. The imposing bell tower, which is part of the right of the apse, whose shape can be recognized even from afar, was built in 1888, the year. Its structure is clearly marked with pilasters at the corners. The bell tower is divided into two parts and topped with a small dome.

Inside the Basilica consists of a Central nave and two side aisles, separated from each other arcades. The nave is somewhat higher than the aisles. On the walls are huge Windows with colorful stained-glass Windows. The chancel is decorated with a monumental triumphal arch and the lighted window with scenes from the lives of different saints.
