The farm Palace – a unique monument of Peterhof. It was built by the architect A. A. Menelas in 1831 on the site of the cottage of the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna.
Originally the Palace was a simple pavilion with a farm, which resembled rural buildings of England: in plan, U-shaped, one-storey building, forming, together with the gate and fence enclosed square. Outside the Palace resembled a modest house in rustic style, with painted straw color roof, with pillars and a canopy entwined with green garlands and bark.
At the behest of Nicholas I on the second floor of the Palace were arranged accommodation for thirteen-year-old heir of Alexander. They are located in the Eastern wing; in the southern part of the Palace – the room staff; and is placed in West farm. In the Palace were also arranged the room for the shepherd, custodians, kitchen, glacier, storage. Specifically for farm from Yorkshire were issued two bulls and eight cows.
On the eve of the wedding of the heir to the Eastern wing of the project A. I. of ... were attached living quarters with a loft. Subsequent restructuring, which were caused by the need to meet the needs of a growing family of Alexander in the additional premises, fit harmoniously into the composition of the building, without prejudice to the generality of neo-Gothic spirit.
As a result, the pavilion was turned into a spacious neo-Gothic Palace, which became the country residence of the family of Emperor Alexander II, rising in 1855 to the Russian throne.
The interior fully corresponds to its appearance. Special elegance and comfort are different rooms of Maria Alexandrovna. More strictly implemented the Blue Cabinet and the room of the Emperor.
The farm Palace became Alexander II where not loving noisy gatherings and not seeking luxury, the Emperor could relax and retire. The farm Palace was his second home.
The arrangement of the area around the Farm Palace carried out by the project E. L. Ghana, which on the site was the place for veranda, designed a large Playground with lush flower gardens, which on three sides was limited to arboured with a pergola, consisting of two rows of columns. On the Central axis of the garden was a fountain with a bronze statue, cast from the original marble of the sculptor J. Field.
With the Farmers ' Palace are associated with important historical events of the late 50-ies of the 19th century – there were meetings in preparation of the peasant reform. In the future, lived in the Palace of the great Prince Alexander Mikhailovich with the Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna.
After the revolution, the Imperial Palace was turned into a Museum. During the war it was the Nazi headquarters. In the postwar period, the building was transformed into a hostel watch factory. Since 1975, the former Palace was empty and continued to deteriorate.
To the restoration of the Farm Palace started only in 2003, the project Author – architect A. G. Leontiev. By this time the Palace was in disrepair. But thanks to the professionalism of restorers today the building appears to us to the maximum extent close to the original appearance: based on detailed inventories and partially preserved fragments recreated Wallpaper, restored upholstered walls in a few rooms (watercolors Gau); in the Blue Cabinet is preserved ceiling moldings; and some areas were left undisturbed fragments of paintings on the ceilings.
Some items of furniture of this Palace are preserved in the other palaces of Peterhof: the Grand Palace here in the waiting room of the Emperor moved the clock in the Rococo style, of "the Cottage" has returned to its former place in the Blue Cabinet clock master I. Yurina, which shows the time in the 66 cities of Russia. And some of the interior and it never left his rightful place. For example, marble bath, made in the workshop of the French casement window (located in the bathroom Maria Alexandrovna with 1856). Preserved parts of the mechanism of one of the first elevators in Russia, built in 1858-1859,
The Palace was opened to visitors in 2010
