When in Pilsen train station appeared around her spontaneously began the construction of houses. For several years there is a new area that we needed to link with the rest of the city, this required a new bridge across the river Radbuza. The aim of this crossing was to unload jánský bridge, which was at the brewery.

Wilanow the bridge was built between English and Denisova waterfront in 1913. An architect was appointed václav Mencl, which is not always pored over drawings and sketches. It is known that previously served as the local mayor. As the material for the new bridge Mencl chose the stone, which at that time had already lost its leading position in the construction, yielding it to the concrete. Although without the latter case there is also not done. Stone was used for facing of the two arches of the bridge with a height of 27, 5 meters, and concrete was poured into the base of this structure.

Wilanow the bridge was inaugurated on September 28, 1913. At the time it received its name in honor of the reigning monarch Franz Joseph I. at the same time on this bridge were laid tram tracks: the city planned to put in here for the first tram. However, these initiatives have remained dreams. The paths were not removed until the Second world war.

In 1918, the bridge was renamed in honor of President of the United States – Wilson, and under this name it is known today. Attempts were made to rename it, for example, the Charles IV bridge (1939), the bridge of Victory (1941), the bridge of Stalin (in 1945), but these names did not stick. His former name he received in the end of XX century.
