A monument dedicated to Alexander Pushkin, in Podgorica can be called one of the symbols of kinship or two congenial Slavic peoples. Since ancient times it is known about the friendship between Russia and Montenegro, making a commemorative song dedicated to the great Russian poet, special for both countries. This monument not only decorate the outdoors, but also establishes the relationship of historical and cultural between Montenegro and Russia.
It is known that Petar II Njegos at the writer called Pushkin as "the happy poet of a great nation", he, after the death of the Creator, Montenegrin ruler had dedicated the poem "Dust of Alexander Pushkin".
The architect of the monument to Pushkin – M. Corsi. Sculptor Alexander Taratynov performing the work, is also the author of a commemorative song dedicated to another famous Russian poet Vladimir Vysotsky. The monument's construction was financed by the Moscow government.
The solemn opening of the monument took place in 2002. It is a composite of not only Pushkin and his wife Natalia Goncharova, who sits on the bench and, presumably, enjoy the poems, Aleksandr Sergeevich she reads. Maybe she listens to exactly the right poem entitled "Bonaparte and Montenegrins", an excerpt from which is carved on a stone slab monument:
"Montenegrins? What is it?
Bonaparte inquired,
True: This evil tribe,
Not afraid of our forces... "
