The Church of St. John of Jerusalem outside the walls – the Roman Catholic parish Church in Poznan. The original Church on this site was built in the late 11th century, making it one of the oldest churches in the city. The epithet "behind the walls" appeared because the Church was located outside the medieval defensive walls Poznan.

The first Church was built here in the late 11th century in honor of St. Michael the Archangel, located at the intersection of the roads leading to Ceremu and Gieco. In the annals it is stated that on 6 may, 1170, Prince Mieszko III and Bishop of poznań founded a shelter for pilgrims. In 1187, the Church and almshouse were transferred to the order of the knights Hospitallers, who in the early 13th century began the construction of a new Church. Built and then the Church is the building that we see today. It was one of the first stone churches in Poland, she was a two-aisled with a sloping roof. Chapel in Baroque style was built in the Eastern part of the Church.

After the fire that occurred at the end of the 15th century, the Church was rebuilt in the Gothic style. The triptych altar was created in a local workshop in 1520. In 1736 on the South side there were a chapel in the Baroque style.

After the outbreak of the Second world war the Church. John of Jerusalem was used as a warehouse, and during the battle of poznań in 1945 was badly damaged. Restoration work was completed in 1948.

In 1992 the Church was returned to the order of the knights Hospitallers, after which there was opened the centre for ambulatory care for cancer patients.
