Bethlehem chapel Photo: Bethlehem chapel

Bethlehem chapel in Prague's Stare mesto looks simple and modest, but it has huge historical significance. It is popular due to the fact that within its walls himself preached Jan HUS. Accordingly, in this Church divine services were conducted only in the Czech language and its parishioners were considered adherents of the reformation. After the defeat of the Protestants under the White Mountain chapel came under the jurisdiction of the Jesuits, who made every effort to destroy even the slightest reminder of Jana Goes. Were painted all the paintings on the walls, removed the chair that was preaching. However, the building itself was not damaged and was waiting in the wings, but sponsorship from the Jesuits did not wait, although they are heavily invested in the reconstruction of other churches.

In the end, the locals considered this chapel superfluous and took it in 1786. She was rebuilt only after 168 years in the mid-twentieth century. Clever architect Jaroslav Fragner not tried to create a completely new structure, and worked with the old drawings, erecting the same chapel that was there many years ago. He used the surviving parts of the walls to give the building a patina of antiquity. We even managed to recover some parts of the frescoes, which are of great historical value.

Nowadays, the chapel is owned by the Czech technical University, and there are usually a variety of celebrations. It is placed about 3 thousand people. Modern Bethlehem chapel has two roofs and needle tower, which is visible from all angles.
