Amazing building in one of the main streets of the Czech capital – národní třída station – immediately attracts attention because of its dissimilarity to the rest of the buildings of Baroque Prague. In the building, which resembles a dark glass cube, is one of the most famous Prague theatre "Laterna magika".
Space for the theatre was built purposefully, not rented already finished building. In the middle of the last century, the government and the intellectuals of Prague wondered what can be done to occupy the territory adjacent to the National theatre. Build a conventional supermarket – it means breaking the very atmosphere of elegance and charm, the sense of cultural institutions. To erect the hotel is also not an option. In the end, the decision came by itself: in 1977, construction began on the new theatre, which was to become the cultural center of the city. It took an ambitious architect Karel Prager. In his objectives was to create a room with perfect sound, which was achieved thanks to the inner skin of the building panels of Cuban marble.
The name of the theatre by chance. It was chosen by name very popular in the 1950-ies of the show, which gathered full houses. Presentation of "Laterna Magica", which translates as "Magic Lantern" was innovative, unusual and daring for its time.
Nowadays, the theatre Laterna Magica is part of the National theatre. His views are bizarre mixture of the remarkable work of actors, gorgeous decorations, gorgeous, rich costumes, amazing choreography, thoughtful dialogues and unusual plot twists.
