The area around the Church of the resurrection of Christ was formerly known as stadium, hence its name – "Stadia". The initial mention of the resurrection nunnery, which existed at this place, refers to 1458. Instead of the wooden Church, destroyed by fire in 1532, the Church was built of stone. But in 1764 the monastery was closed, the Church became a parish, and remained such until 1788. From 1788 to the present day, she was assigned to the Church of St. Varlaam, which was located next door, in consequence, of the clergy at the Church of the resurrection was not. However, the library was moved to the Church of St. Varlaam.

In 1808 the Church was being prepared for demolition because of its svetlosti, but the Holy Synod did not give permission for the demolition of the Church.
