The famous Theater of the Word – this is a big project, the head of which was a graduate of the Shchukin theatrical school Director Leonid Izotov. The beginning of the development of theatre was founded in 1975. Since its inception, it was created as a poetic theatre and theatre of artistic expression. The main part of the team are young people – students and schoolchildren.

The very first performance, which brought a new theatre of unprecedented fame, became poetic journalistic performance staged in 1976 on the verses of the Spanish poet Lorca, Federico Garcia, titled "I write Your name, Liberty! ". This play became the laureate of all-Union competition of Amateur theaters. Immediately after this statement was released some performance based on poems of Alexander Blok's "the Twelve". Both performances had endured nearly 100 submissions.

Theatrical unit of repertoire concerning poetic directions, widely represented not once played performances on the poems of Langston Hughes ("nothing to be sorry about", "In the style of the Blues"), Andrei Voznesensky ("I Want silence! ", "Nostalgia"), the great Russian of Alexander Pushkin sweat ("Autumn," "Winter, what can we do"), Vladimir Mayakovsky (Mayakovsky laughs. Mayakovsky smiling. The film mocks"), Russian classical poets of the 18th-20th centuries, based on the works of celebrated poets of the Silver age; also presented plays poetry by Sasha Cherny, Sergei Yesenin, Tsvetaeva, Osip Mandelstam, Boris Pasternak.

An important part of the repertoire of the Word amounted dramatic works, most of which had a focus on youth and children: Nina Dolinina "them and us", Lev Ustinov "the Island in half," Vladimir Konstantinov and Boris Racer "Lefty", Korney Chukovsky "veterinarian", Samuil Marshak "cat house" and many other well-known works. Outstanding stage in the work and activities of the Theatre began staging a dramatic orientation: Grigory Gorin "Forget Herostratus", Anton Chekhov's "the Joke", Nikolai Erdman's "the Mandate".

Theatre prepares an evening of music and poetry, the evening of Russian romances and personal creative evenings of the leading and renowned actors: Irina Barabanova-Kalinina, Artem Masalova, Vladimir Locker, Oleg Grigoriev, Svetlana Bogdanova, Masha Rims, Alexei Kuzmin, Grigoryev family. One of the artists and photographers of the Theatre during the 1980's was Tatiana Danilova, who later received the title of "Best female photographer in Russia".

During the period 1977-1987, the Theatre, the Words could use a unique form of cultural peredvizhnichestva, namely summer and two-week winter "landings" in regional areas. Summer – wagon and horse, and in winter – skiing, and once on the bike. Concerts and performances were given in rural schools, clubs, "red corners", just on the street or even in the field. In General, in rural areas of the region conducted more than 250 submissions, which gathered an audience of about 10 million viewers. The bypassed almost all regional areas. Summer "landings" there were five, and in winter – eleven.

Increasingly, the Theatre has been looking for its audience, speaking in factories, schools, clubs. Most often, after these performances in theatre came new actors. For all the Theatre actors were about a hundred people. The children of most of the actors who previously worked in the future was also involved in his life.

Today, the Theater of the Word also carries out its violent creativity. Various performances are held on Saturdays at the theater building on Sovetskaya street. At the moment the theatrical repertoire consists of seven performances, and the project is still being finalized two productions. On the stage brought to life a unique, ethnographic, musical-theatrical project "Pskov dolt".
