Aksai fortress Museum is located near the village of Berdonosova the city of Aksai. The earthen Fort was built by the canons of wartime, are typical of our ancestors-builders thoroughness and practicality. First, according to the plan of fortification, to dig open trenches and space for dungeons, then they were lined with brick, thus was erected the walls of future strengthening. On the wall was the joists and floor beams, which were first covered with several layers thoroughly compacted layers and dried clay, it is mined here, on the Bank of the Aksay river. The slabs were provided for ventilation ducts. The thickness of such earthen floors reached 10 meters and was reliable protection from artillery fire.

Aksai earthen fortress was built in 1763, almost simultaneously with the birth of Rostov-on-don. In the final, it looked like a hill size of 15 x 10 meters and belonged to the fortress of Dmitry of Rostov. At the disposal of the defenders were 36 guns-howitzers, surpassing any naval guns on range and quantity of buckshot that is, by the force of the lesion. Several of these guns represented in the Museum. In the underground casemates impressive size can fit a cavalry squadron.

The castle in the middle of the XVIII century, it was first the tsarist, then a customs post and small settlement of Ust-Axis. Military-strategic importance Aksai fortress was its geographic position at the crossroads of eight trade routes, including on the way to the capital of the don Cossacks – Cherkassky. During the Russo-Turkish war, the fortress was entrusted with the defence annexed to Russia by Peter I of Azov.

Today in the exposition of the Museum complex presents cold steel and firearms, household items and tools customs service, handwritten documents of the past years. After several stages of restoration work, Moskovskaya Zastava became part of Aksay military history Museum. Archaeological excavations of the fortress continue.
