Salsk Museum named after the artist V. K. Nechitailo - Museum of painting, which was founded in Salsk. The year of birth of the Museum is 1977, it was then thanks to the decision of the government of RSFSR the Museum received a collection of art numbering seventy-five units.

The Museum was named in honor of people's artist of Russia V. K. Nechitailo, who took an active part in the formation of the first exhibition of the Museum. His creations are still the main backbone of the exhibition. Work for first collections of the Museum were brought from various exhibitions from all over the Soviet Union or was written under the order and was the personification of an era 50-60-ies of the 20th century. This collection has set the tone for the formation of the direction in which the Museum works to this day, namely the demonstration of the achievements of modern art. In recent years the Museum is characterized by a new trend, which manifests itself in the presentation of art "new Millennium".
The Museum presents the works of artists of the Soviet Union, as well as the don artists - Teryaev, Soprovich, A. V. Timofeev and others.

At the beginning of 2013 the Museum's collection numbered more than three thousand pieces of fine art.
