In the Central part of Rybinsk, on the Cross street, on the opposite side from the famous "Jubilee", you will notice a remarkable temple, the drum of which stands the eight-pointed cross. This is the Sretensky temple. Its white walls are built in the Byzantine style; they do not strike the eye Shine of gold salaries and expensive interior.
It is important to note that over the past few years this Church has literally become home to the majority of local residents. In late 1995 polartronic and literally destroyed the temple was transferred into the hands of a specially created community with the blessing of Rostov and Yaroslavl Archbishop of Micah, which marked the beginning of a cleric in the service of priest Vitaly Golitsyn.
It is important to note that from the parishioners and the rector requires a large amount of patience and effort to be able to resolve a variety of issues relating to the management and restoration of the temple, and also to overcome the centuries of misunderstanding of officials in administrative matters. Truly a warming ray of light are concerns relating to the maintenance of the Sunday school, which was established at the Church in 1996. It is clear that this is not the easiest thing, but it becomes much easier, looking into the concerned eyes of the kids, which awakens the true talent in the desire to do good to all others and to share with their neighbors a part of true love.
The architect of the temple was made by M. A. Screws master from St. Petersburg, who was especially known as a professional part of religious architecture. During the life of this man was able to build an impressive number of monasteries and churches.
The Foundation of the Church took place in 1868, when the initiator was a temple warden P. A. Pereslavtsev who saw the temple exceptionally warm at Holy cross parish. The largest amount for the construction work bequeathed known city merchant Shcherbakov, P. A., and the remainder was collected from local members and by generous benefactors.
The ceremony of consecration took place on 16 December 1873 rector WGSO-Dorofeeva desert, Archimandrite Polycarp. When the temple was dedicated a few thrones, the chief of which was the throne in honor of Paul the Confessor and the presentation of the Lord, and the other two, side – in the name of the monk of St. Abraham of Smolensk and in the name of the Apostle Peter. As to the interior of the Church, it was attended by the architect A. I. Krakau, who was able to apply the traditions, typical North Italian style. In the period between 19 – beginning of 20 centuries the temple painting was replaced by a well-known stories, designed as works of V. M. Vasnetsov
It was at this time the ensemble of Holy cross parish was of particular importance relating to the public view of the city, it consisted of two large temple, Church fence, tiered bell tower and the house, which belonged to the Church the parable. At this time inflamed complex events of the time of Troubles, prompting the emergence of anti-religious policy of the Soviet state. Gradually the Sretensky temple began to crumble.
In 1996 the Church of the presentation was handed over to a specially created community, which is trying to restore its former glory and to revive within its walls the true Orthodox prayer life.
