Iskritskij the monastery of the Dormition of the virgin is located in the Western part of the Balkan mountains, about 2 km East of the village Iskrets. The monastery was founded in the XIII century, but a century later, in the years of Ottoman rule, it was destroyed by the Turks. Around the XVII century the building was restored and was used first as a chapel, and later – since 1834 – again as a monastery cloister. Currently he is an active monastery.
The facility, part of a monastery complex up to now has survived the building of the Church of the assumption. It is a one-nave Basilica with a dome-less semi-cylindrical apse. Walls of the building are strengthened by buttresses, built of large stones. The main part of the temple having a length and a width of 8, 7 and 5 yards, respectively, was built in the early XVII century (1602). In 1846 it was attached porch size 10 x 7, 4 meters. The Church is devoid of any external decorations, but inside you can see ancient frescoes, Dating to the XVII and XIX centuries: three different images of Christ. In the apse are the image of the virgin and the scene of "Day of the Holy Trinity". The paintings in the narthex of the "Apocalypse" "Revelation". A number of murals ("the Parable of the Pharisee and the publican", etc.) adorns the walls of the vestibule.
Near the Church stands a small heptagonal stone structure – a confessional. It was built in 1856 and is one of a kind. Inside the wall of the confessional painted.
Another surviving building – two-storey building intended for housing, with a massive stone basement and a small attic. The building was erected in the nineteenth century.
Iskritskij the monastery of the assumption was declared a cultural monument.
