In the 80 years of the eighteenth century by order of Catherine the great under the project and under the guidance of architect Starov was built Tauride Palace for the field Marshal Grigory Potyomkin-Tavrichesky, which has become the standard construction of other palaces.

The Tauride Palace interiors were luxurious. But no less magnificent was the garden that surrounded the Palace. His plan worked, the English expert horticulturist V. Gould. In the place where once flowed a rivulet of Zamorana, were dug two ponds connected with each other by canals. In ponds launched the fish, but not some, and noble sturgeon.

The hill, formed of the earth dug ponds on the Big island, offered a spectacular view of the Palace. The island to the "mainland" joined metal pedestrian bridges - one of the first in Russia.

In 1794, under the direction of architect wolves was built "Home garden masters" and construct the greenhouse, made the fence of the garden entrances and stone bridge. In the greenhouse gardeners grew to the king's table a variety of exotic fruits: pineapples and watermelons, melons and peaches.

After the death of Potemkin, the garden is not launched, but on the contrary, began to develop even more, there appeared new ponds, the banks of which were reinforced by stone. In the meadows of the garden no longer grazed livestock and turned into a beautiful lawn. After creating the garden was closed for ordinary citizens, and to enjoy too. The grass was strolling peacocks, ponds sailed stately swans, ponds lapped seal, a present from distant Persia.

Only almost fifty years later, the garden gradually became more available to visit St. Petersburg. Then began to build sports courts for badminton and ball. And in winter there was ice skating.

In the early XX century in the garden in the pavilion beginning to work gardeners society of the Russian Empire. After the revolution, the pavilion was renovated and turned into the Parking garage. Changed the name of the garden, he became a Park of culture and rest First Five-year plan. During the great Patriotic war, the garden fell forty three high explosive bombs. Tauride garden was adapted to meet the needs of the Soviet army. After the war, the garden was restored by the talented architect Goldhor. Here were built the boat pier, flooded a newly rollers, rebuilt summerhouse. In the middle of the XX century appeared first widescreen cinema "Leningrad". In 1962 the monument was "Young heroes of the defense of Leningrad", the first monument dedicated to the memory of children who died during the war.

In 1985, the Tauride garden was returned to its original name. Currently he is one of the most favorite places of St. Petersburg.
